Wreck it Ralph (2012)

In Brief: Ralph (John C. Riley) in a Villain of a 80's Arcade game, Fix if Felix, Jr. It's the role he's played in this game for 30 years at the local arcade. But on the inside, He doesn't feel like a Villain. That doesn't stop everyone treating him like one still. Ralph wants a little recognition for the role he plays, a thank you. When a wager is made that could see him living in the Penthouse of a Apartment, He sets out to win a Medal in a neighbouring game, First Person Shoot Hero's Duty.

Last film I've seen for 2012, and its surprisingly great. I went in expecting Paper man (the animated short before the film) to be the best about the session. There's been a lot of care and detail put into this film, and depending on your knowledge of Game history, you can get a lot of those details.
The film is beautifully animated and rendered. Each game world we see has a slightly different feel to it, and the characters in those worlds act differently too. At time's character will move in a way that might look jarring, but its a throw back to old 2-3 frame animations that would have been around in the 80's.
The films story is good, with a nice moral about acceptance and not judging a book by its cover, and John C. Riley manages to make Ralph very likeable but flawed character. Jack McBryers Felix doesn't feel all that removed from his role at 30 rock, but it works. Sarah Silvermans Vaneellope wasn't nearly as grating a character as I expected, but when the film goes to her Sugar Rush world, it does seem to mark the point where the film drops down a notch. The nostalgic game references nearly comes to a stop here, and while there's some good story telling here, it's also got some of the most forced in the film. Especially the forced down your throat last minute villain.
There may have been some small scenes i missed during the film, i had to leave the cinema at 2 points, but complains aside, its a fun film, passes very quickly for its 108 minute run time. Plus, it has the konami code in it, extra life, right there.
