Trance (2013)

In Brief: Simon (James McAvoy), is a Art Auctioneer, With a Gambling Debt. He arranges with a local criminal Franck (Vincent Cassel). Only, He chooses to double cross him. During the robbery, Simon is beaten and looses his short term memory. After Franck decieds he's not lying, they enlist the help of Elizabeth (Rosario Dawson), A Hypnotist, to unlock the missing memory.

Alright, So Danny Boyle is pretty versatile as a director. He's no Takashi Miike, but he's pretty good. Trance  is probably best described as a crime mystery thriller. It'll keep you on the edge of your seat, and guessing allegiances as the story twists and shrinks around the heads of it's leads.
The camera work in this is interesting, constantly making you guess if its reality, a hypnosis induced dream, or  a lie being spun. It work's well, and it move's at a great pace. It never gets boring.
This is probably one of the few times in recent years, I haven't been entierly sold on McAvoys performance, it's uneven, but that can be pointed towards the context of the story as much as anything. Cassel is Cassel, he's got this role down pat, he had it down 10 films ago, and Dawson is suitable in her role.
It's a fun ride, and one you might want to check out again, soon after the original viewing to see how it holds up with your knowledge from the end of the film. That might make it more of a rental for some people then a cinema ticket.
