the Cabin in the Woods (2010/2012)

The Cabin in the Woods, the often delayed Joss Weadon/Drew Goddard collaboration shot in 2009, delayed by plan's for a 3D conversion, studio bankruptcy and other reasons beyond my general knowledge. But its here, now, and two months ago or so across the globe, Thanks to Liongate, and in Australia, thanks to Roadshow (You know, after fan outrage that the film was pulled from its July 12 slot to a unspecified straight to DVD date, and then placed in limited run as of June 14). A lots been said, and maybe for the best part unsaid, and its built alot of expectation. Does it deliver?

A resounding Yes from me. and i'm really tempted to leave it at that, cause to talk about the film in any more detail then 5 college/university students head off to a cabin in the wood for a long weekend would be starting to pull away from the films surprises. But then, to say that, you'll know there's more to this then the generic horror film, and if you've seen the trailer, then you probably do know there's something a bit more to the cabin then you might suspect walking in blind.
So what can you say about the film without spoiling too much? Our corpses in waiting are a pretty generic fare for a horror film, each seemingly fitting into a role we know well from a million other films. They're performances suitable for the roles they're playing. There's some smart humor in there, but that's to be expected from a Film with Weadon's involvement.

The most annoying thing about this film, is the desire not to reveal whats going on in it. There are some core points to the film, that really need to be the sort of tightly guarded secret of film, you know, the one's you don't reveal to anyone for fear of castration from a random passer by.
If you can, see the film. If you can't see it in Cinema's, rent the DVD.
